Behind the Pink.

Every brand has a beginning. This one has a few chapters.

CHAPTER 01

Los Angeles

Being Good at the Work Was Only Half the Battle.

Before opening my first studio, I’d spent years working in Wax Center locations and high end spas. I knew the work, and owning my own studio was already something I wanted.

When I moved to Los Angeles, finding work wasn’t easy. So I decided to take a chance on myself. I rented a suite, gave the business its first identity, and worked hard to get the doors open. In my mind, I was going to be booked and busy.

Then I opened the doors.

And realized I still had to figure out how to get people through them. I was new to the city. Marketing was a whole different challenge, and the studio expenses didn’t stop while I was trying to figure it out. I tried Groupon to get my name out there. It brought clients, but it wasn’t bringing in the money I needed.

Toward the end, lashes started taking off. But by then, I’d already learned some expensive lessons about what it really takes to run a business.

I knew how to be an esthetician. I was still learning how to be a business owner.

BEHIND THE PINK / CHAPTER 02

San Francisco

It Was Beautiful. But Something Didn't Feel Right.

After Los Angeles, I moved back home to the Bay Area and settled into a beautiful live-work loft in San Francisco. I decorated it, made it my own, and found a way to combine my living space with my business.

I’d already learned how expensive it could be to maintain a separate studio, so this seemed like a smarter way to do things. And the space was beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

But I wasn’t comfortable.

Having strangers come into the same place where I laid my head was something I hadn’t fully considered. If a client had a bad experience, I couldn’t just close the studio door and go home. I was already home. That’s when I realized I needed separation. I wanted the convenience of having my business close, without feeling like my personal space was part of the appointment.

I wanted my business close to home. I just didn't want my home to feel like my business.

BEHIND THE PINK / CHAPTER 03

Las Vegas

Same Dream. Third Time's the Charm.

By the time I made it to Las Vegas, I had a much better understanding of what I wanted—and what I didn’t. Los Angeles taught me that opening a business and building a business are two very different things. San Francisco taught me that the space you work in matters just as much as the work you do.

This time, I wasn’t starting from scratch. I was starting from experience. And finally, I have my dream workspace. A space where I can do what I love, continue developing my craft, and make room for the bigger ideas I’ve had along the way.

There’s still work to do. There are still things to figure out. But I’m not approaching this chapter the way I approached the first one. Now it’s about building, growing, and seeing just how far Pink Valley can go.

I’m not starting over. I’m building on everything I’ve learned.

BEYOND THE TREATMENT ROOM

Some Lessons Are Worth Passing On

Looking back, I realize that everything I’ve experienced throughout my career has given me something valuable to share. I knew how to master my craft and build relationships with clients, but learning how to build and run a business of my own was a completely different journey.

That’s what inspired me to begin developing digital products for other professionals in my industry. A way to package what I’ve learned, share some of those hard-earned lessons, and hopefully save someone else a little time along the way.

I know that every entrepreneur’s journey is different. The challenges I’ve faced may not be the challenges someone else encounters. But I believe in starting with your strengths, being willing to learn, and having the courage to build something of your own.
